A Great Apple Crumble Recipe to Reduce Cholesterol
The best thing about this dessert is that the wholemeal flour and the fruit in are extremely rich in soluble fibre, which provides a great boost to help you reduce your LDL cholesterol.
Ensure you use polyunsaturated or monounsaturated margarine, which further helps to lower LDL cholesterol levels. It also provides a rich source of vitamins and important antioxidant plant substances.
You’ll need:
- 5 large, sweet eating apples (pick your favourite)
- 1 tsp of cinnamon powder.
- 125g of wholemeal flour (you can use half plain white flour and half wholemeal flour if you choose).
- 50g of soft brown sugar.
- 50g of polyunsaturated or monounsaturated margarine.
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 190C/375F/
gas mark 5.
2. Next, wash and de-core the apples. Then cut them up into 8 even sized pieces making sure you leave the skins in place.
4. Place the fruit onto the bottom of an over proof dish.
5. Then, sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon over the apples.
6. Cut the margarine into small pieces and rub them into the wholemeal flour. You want to do this until the flour mix resembles the consistency of small, fine breadcrumbs.
7. Then stir in the brown sugar to the mix and use it to top the apples.
8. Finally, bake the crumble for 25 minutes or until the top is a golden brown colour. The fruit inside should be soft.
